Shocking episode at the centre of Napoli And under the lenses of some smartphone cameras: two young men on a scooter stole the entire stall of an illegal street vendor in Piazza Plebiscito. The scene was filmed by a school group on a field trip, who captured the theft live.
The video went viral on social media and caught the attention of Congressman Borrelli, who harshly commented on the incident, calling it a display of lawlessness and bad publicity for the city.
The footage shows the two young men recklessly stealing the street vendor's merchandise, nearly running him over. Unfortunately, the scooter's license plate wasn't visible in the video, despite the boys capturing the crime.
Borrelli expressed his indignation at what happened and underlined the importance of taking severe action against illegal immigrants and criminals to combat the spread of illegality.
“We are facing the fair of illegality. It is known that Piazza del Plebiscito is infested with illegal street vendors, but honestly a scene like this has never been seen before. Two boys speeding on a scooter in a pedestrian area to rob an illegal vendor, all under the Prefecture and perhaps a short distance from a patrol of the police.
The young students on the trip truly witnessed a deplorable spectacle and will probably carry this absurd memory with them forever. Naples is not this, it cannot be this. It is intolerable that in broad daylight right in Plebiscito, a square permanently guarded by the police, all this happens.
I hope that the authors of this madness, thanks to the video recorded by the students and the verification of the security cameras, will be caught. Images like this contribute to spreading a sense of impunity that is increasingly gaining ground among young Neapolitan criminals.
We must act with an iron fist and severe penalties not only to stop the criminal drift that is devouring Naples but also to combat the thousands of illegal immigrants who infest the city and contribute to the spread of illegality".
