Yesterday evening, around 20:30 p.m., the Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit of the Provincial Command of Avellino executed a search warrant authorized by the Deputy Public Prosecutor of Avellino, Vincenzo Toscano. Among the recipients of the order was the mayor of Avellino, Gianluca Festa.
The decision was motivated by the need to seek evidence regarding the accusation according to which the mayor had favored some sponsorships of private companies in favor of Del. Fes., a basketball club from Avellino that plays in the national series B championship.
The Municipality of Avellino released a note stating that the search was carried out in all the places available to the mayor, but did not produce elements that confirmed the accusations. The note underlines the legitimacy and necessity of the investigative activity, in line with what the mayor himself hoped for in the past.
However, deep dismay is expressed for the wording of the charges in the search warrant. The note highlights that Dr. Gianluca Festa has supported the basketball club for years, even with personal financial resources, without deriving any benefit from it. Late this morning, Mayor Festa announced that he will call a press conference to address the matter.
