On Sunday 24 March at 11:30 am, the La Bottega delle Parole bookshop, located inside the beautiful Villa Falanga in San Giorgio a Cremano, hosts a new literary meeting.

The guest will be the very talented writer Maria Cristina Russo who will present for the first time her new novel “Lia”, published by IVVI Editore.

The book is a strong story of physical, psychological and economic violence that the protagonist suffers during all 30 years of her marriage and the attempt at rebirth after the death of her much-lamented husband.

It is not an autobiographical narration but a collection of experiences that were narrated to the author and that she wanted to bring to light to insist and always pay attention to the theme of gender violence.

A gripping narrative plot where family and love tragedies intertwine thanks to the presence of ambivalent and not always positive characters, outlined and described perfectly by the author: unsuspected white-collar workers who become monsters within the walls of their homes, professionals who fall from grace due to personal vices and men who live lives on the edge are some of the protagonists who gravitate around Lia.

Lia's story does not have a happy ending.

With a strict upbringing from an early age, a fragile character, and a submissive nature, Lia thinks that the search for new love can reward her after so much pain, but life continues to be unkind to her.

“I decided right away that I didn’t want to write a story with a happy ending. It would have been too obvious. I’ve never been interested in telling the story of a princess saved by a prince on horseback. Also because these stories rarely exist” this is what Maria Cristina Russo says. “The stories of abuse and violence are many, too many and often at the hands of unsuspecting people. We must learn to react.”

The Neapolitan author will be in conversation with the bookseller and founder of La bottega delle Parole and the writer and actor Paquito Catanzaro.
