Compensation proposals have been put forward to the families of Francesco Altamura and Lucia Morra, the two young people who were hit and killed in Napoli the 30 September 2023.
The person responsible for the accident, Dario Lenci, was driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. The defendant's lawyers formally presented the offer before the judge of the First Criminal Section of Naples, but it was rejected by the victims' families.
Before the trial began, relatives of the children hit by the car demonstrated to demand justice and full compensation. The defendant's lawyer clarified that the offer of compensation was considered only partial compensation, not a replacement.
Subsequently, a request for a summary trial was made, conditional on an expert report on the incident, but this too was rejected by the judge, who opted for a trial using the summary "dry" formula.
The victims' families have expressed their desire to see the gravity of the defendant's actions—driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs—recognized. In particular, Lucia's father emphasized that driving under these conditions turns the car into a weapon and that legislative intervention is needed to prevent tragedies like the one suffered by their children.
The trial will begin at 11 a.m. on April 23, and the families of the victims have pledged to fight for greater justice in similar cases, calling for more severe punishment for those who drive while impaired.
