During the hearing of the maxi-trial on the violence that took place in the prison of Santa Maria Capua Vetere On April 6, 2020, the testimony of Cipriano Cioffo, detained in Carinola for murder, brought an element of novelty. Cioffo, despite having been the victim of the beatings, in fact scaled down the accusations compared to other detainee-victims.
Responding to questions from Angelo Raucci, the lawyer representing one of the defendants, Cioffo stated that some inmates had exaggerated their descriptions of the beatings they had suffered, indicating a higher number of blows and officers than actually were.
Cioffo also offered a version different from other witnesses regarding some aspects of April 6th. He stated that the food arrived regularly and that the "blonde" nurse came by with the medicines. He also claimed that he disagreed with the manner of the April 5th protests, considering them too aggressive and offensive towards the officers and Commissioner Costanzo.
