A gang of cyber fraudsters has been dismantled in Salerno, and among its members there were also three women.
The operation was conducted by the Cyber Security Operations Section of the Postal and Communications Police of Salerno, under the coordination of the Campania, Basilicata, and Molise COSC. Five personal precautionary measures were executed as part of a criminal proceeding that has already seen three other precautionary measures against citizens of Salerno.
The accused were involved in scams carried out through sophisticated phishing techniques. The investigations were launched after a complaint was filed by a young victim who had lost all his savings due to the gang's activities. The searches and seizures of computer equipment were carried out at a post office, where several suspects were found.
The evidence gathered helped solidify the charges against the scammers, supporting the precautionary measures taken against them. During the investigation, additional illegal activities emerged, including telephone fraud in which the scammers impersonated officials from the Poste Italiane SpA Anti-Fraud Office and used fake numbers that appeared to belong to the organization. Evidence gathered through technical investigations and wiretaps allowed these additional crimes to be prosecuted.
The Salerno scam gang was brought to its knees thanks to the decisive action of the competent authorities, who worked hard to expose these illegal activities and protect citizens from the risks associated with cyber fraud.
