Caserta, 13 March 2024 - The provincial secretariats of Fim, Fiom and Uilm of Caserta have called a 4-hour strike for tomorrow, Thursday, March 14, in all the metalworking companies in the province. The protest was called following the death of Giuseppe Borrelli, the 25-year-old worker crushed by a machine in the Laminazione Sottile plant in San Marco Evangelista.
The words of the unions:
"The frequency with which workplace deaths occur is unacceptable," the unions stated in a statement. "Campania is one of the main regions where fatal accidents occur. The unions hope that the competent authorities will quickly clarify what happened. These deaths are not tragic accidents, but the consequences of a profoundly flawed system that places profit above the value of life."
The demand for greater security:
"The union strongly reiterates its commitment to investing resources to strengthen and improve a prevention system that guarantees health and safety in the workplace," the statement continues. "The union representatives at the Laminazione Sottile plant were right to immediately shut down the plant and call a strike for all work shifts."

A national problem:
"You can't die at work," the unions concluded. "In a civilized country, appeals and platitudes cannot and should not suffice. Measures are needed to restore dignity to work. We await the investigation, sympathizing with the family, and we are available immediately for any action necessary."
The mobilization continues:
Tomorrow's strike is just the beginning of the unions' mobilization against workplace deaths. The provincial secretariats of FIM, FIOM, and UILM have announced that they will continue to patrol workplaces and demand concrete measures from institutions to ensure worker safety.
