Customs authorities have made a large seizure of dangerous footwear, especially flip-flops, at the port of Napoli.
The intercepted shipments contained a total of 281.082 pairs of shoes, with the potential to generate illicit profits of over 2.000.000 euros if they had been placed on the market.
The shoes, which featured bright colors and fictional characters to appeal to younger consumers, emitted unpleasant odors presumably due to the use of chemicals during production.

These substances are considered endocrine disruptors and can cause serious damage to the reproductive, metabolic, and neurological systems. The shoes were seized, and the legal representatives of the importing companies were referred to the judicial authorities for prosecution under Article 16 of Legislative Decree 133/2009, which provides for penalties of up to three months' imprisonment or fines ranging from €3 to €40.000,00.
