The mayor of Avellino, Gianluca Feast, is at the center of an investigation conducted by the Irpinia city prosecutor's office, which has placed him under investigation for alleged omissions in official duties. This is part of broader investigations involving contracts and assignments approved by the municipal administration.

On the orders of the Public Prosecutor Vincenzo Toscano, the Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit of the Provincial Command have acquired an unspecified number of resolutions "immediately effective", dating back to the period April-May 2023, which were not regularly published in the Public Notice Board of the Municipality of Avellino.

This isn't the first time Mayor Festa has found himself under the judicial spotlight: he was previously implicated in an investigation regarding alleged sponsorships for the local basketball team.

The association's president and accountant, Gennaro and Andrea Canonico, are also implicated in this affair, charged with criminal conspiracy, corruption, bid-rigging, and forgery of public documents.

His defense attorney, Louis PetrilloSaid: "The rapid pace of searches and acquisitions of resolutions and documents ordered by the Avellino Prosecutor's Office in the investigations involving Mayor Gianluca Festa is disturbing. In my long experience, I have no recollection of such a thing."

"The magistrates are doing their job, but we can't help but feel disturbed by the accusations we don't yet know. From the documents we've been served, we still don't know what we're defending ourselves against." It's still "At this stage, and based on the documents, these are fanciful insinuations that, however, contribute to creating a destabilizing climate for the city of Avellino."

On the new accusation against Mayor Festa of omission in official duties, Petrillo underlines that "there is no law requiring the publication of resolutions on the Public Notice Board" while, he adds, "The Prosecutor's Office is required to submit the documents to the Review Court, to which we have appealed, within one day. Several days have passed, but nothing has yet been submitted."
