Two men were arrested by the Carabinieri of Zogno and Napoli Stella for defrauding an elderly woman living in Ponteranica, pretending to be the lawyers of her son who was involved in an alleged road accident.
The scam, which took place last November, saw the scammers convince the woman to hand over €7 in cash and jewelry, claiming that the money would be used to avoid an alleged conviction for her son.
Thanks to the investigations conducted and the video footage from the cameras in the area, the Carabinieri were able to identify and arrest those responsible, who are currently detained in Naples.
This scam is just one example of the many fraud attempts that can target older people, it is important to remain vigilant and not give in to requests for money over the phone from alleged lawyers or family members in difficulty.
