The grip of the scam has finally eased with the arrest of two alleged fraudsters, who had woven a web of deception across several Italian regions, from Emilia Romagna to Veneto and Tuscany. The most disturbing incident occurred in Ancona, where an elderly woman living in the Poggio area was the victim of a scam orchestrated by individuals posing as Carabinieri officers. Under the pretext that the woman's nephew was involved in serious legal problems, the scammers managed to steal €6.000 in cash from the victim.
However, their criminal tour was interrupted by the timely actions of the Ancona Flying Squad officers, who reported the two individuals for aggravated fraud.

The fake Carabinieri had carried out their heist on March 12th in Poggio, but their operation was stopped when the police managed to track down the car they were using to travel to Bologna. One of the alleged scammers was spotted in a rental car while attempting to return to Naples, his home, while the other was intercepted on a train bound for Naples on the Bologna-Naples route.
At the time of the arrest, one of the scammers still had the €6.000 stolen from the elderly woman from Ancona on him. The sum was seized along with gold jewelry found in their possession, presumably belonging to other victims defrauded in the regions targeted by the scammers in the previous days. Investigations are currently underway to return the jewelry to its rightful owners, who live in the areas targeted by the scammers, including Ancona, Bologna, Padua, Vicenza, Verona, and the province of Pisa.
