La “Venus of the Rags” by Michelangelo Pistoletto, a work damaged by a fire on July 12, 2023, was rebuilt and donated to the city of Naples.
After being exhibited in Piazza Municipio for three months, it will find its final location in the church of San Pietro ad Aram. The inauguration was attended by the mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, the artist Michelangelo Pistoletto and other personalities.
The fire was caused by a young man with mental problems, sentenced to 4 years in prison.
Following the artist's decision to donate the work, the funds raised by a crowdfunding campaign were donated to two associations that work in the social field in Naples.
Michelangelo Pistoletto, during the inauguration of the new Venus of the Rags in Piazza Municipio in Naples, showed understanding towards the young author of the act, underlining the need to find a solution for him.
He spoke of a gesture made out of suffering and the possibility of a recovery path. The artist's gesture in reconstructing and donating the work was welcomed positively and contributed to supporting two social associations active in the Neapolitan area.
