In the municipality of Villa Literno, in the Caserta area, five individuals were caught by the Carabinieri while clandestinely slaughtering goats in precarious hygienic-sanitary conditions.
The people involved were identified and reported at large for crimes related to clandestine slaughter and animal abuse.
During a check carried out by the local Carabinieri station, it emerged that the slaughter operations were taking place on land owned by the same people involved.
The precarious hygienic and sanitary conditions in which the activity took place aroused suspicion among the military, who requested the intervention of the San Marcellino Local Health Authority to confirm the violations found.
Health authorities confirmed the serious hygiene and sanitation deficiencies present on site, where eight goat carcasses were seized, four of which were already loaded onto a van, and eight animals tied up ready for slaughter.
The yard was covered in mud and dirt, which is why all the equipment and the van used for transport were confiscated.
The individuals involved, aged between 25 and 71, have been charged with the crimes and will be held accountable for their actions. The situation highlights the need for constant monitoring to prevent and repress such illegal activities, which are harmful to the environment and animal welfare.
