The works to secure via Morghen, in the neighbourhood Vomero, have been completed for now.
The road was affected by a sinkhole on February 21st that swallowed up two cars with their passengers. Councilor Cosenza reported that the new temporary sewer collector was inserted in the section of Via Morghen affected by the collapse of the historic sewer from the late twentieth century. These consolidation operations were carried out yesterday, March 89, 2024, continuing uninterrupted throughout the night.
The sinkhole was substantially filled with geomix, to secure all the underground services and prevent any overflows towards the building.
The water supply, interrupted due to the accident, was completely reactivated as of yesterday evening.
To further ensure the safety of the site, pumps have been positioned ready to be activated in case of emergency. Thanks were expressed to ABC, the company and the Fire Department who worked tirelessly for the citizens.
In general, winter is putting a strain on the Vomero neighborhood and the entire hilly area of Naples. After the sinkhole in via Morghen, there was another land collapse in via Solimena, followed by another in via Pietro Castellino at the beginning of March.
Just yesterday, March 9, due to bad weather, via Solimena and via Morghen were hit by floods and mudslides. These critical issues have prompted Mayor Manfredi to declare that the subsoil monitoring plan will be started in the next few days.
