A video circulating on social media shows a driver driving a high-powered vehicle at breakneck speed, brushing past scooters and cars, along the Galleria Vittoria and Via Chiatamone in Naples . The mad dash, clocking in at around 200 km/h, took place on city streets with a 30 km/h speed limit. Not content with his stunt, the driver filmed himself driving with only one hand on the wheel and posted the video on social media.
The video sparked outrage from MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli, who commented: "With the images posted as trophies, the protagonist celebrates his profound ignorance. The bitter fate of the many road deaths and the innocent victims of reckless drivers have taught us nothing."
Borrelli then called for exemplary punishment for those who behave in this way, proposing the lifetime revocation of driving licenses for "hijackers." He also urged the postal police to use videos on social media to identify and punish these individuals with the utmost severity.
“It is unacceptable to allow such behavior, especially after the many deaths we have had to mourn on the streets of Naples,” added Borrelli, citing the cases of Elvira Zibra, hit by a scooter on Via Caracciolo, and Michele Angelillo, hit in the Galleria Laziale.
"We need to put an end to the carnage that takes place daily on our streets," Borrelli concluded, "and the wicked rules of the new Highway Code certainly won't achieve concrete results."
The Green Left Alliance MP called for decisive action by the authorities to combat the phenomenon of wild driving and ensure road safety.
