Alilauro presented the Giove Jet, the latest addition to its fleet, at the "Volaviamare" building in Naples . It is the company's first "green" catamaran, equipped with an innovative propulsion system that reduces noise, fuel consumption, and exhaust emissions by 30%.

The Giove Jet is a catamaran built in 1985 in Sweden, 33 meters long and 9,30 wide, with a capacity of 261 passengers. The unit has undergone a deep refit at the Alilauro shipyard in Naples, where the new Volvo Penta IPS propulsion system has been installed.

The Volvo Penta IPS system consists of four high-pressure electronically injected engines, which ensure optimized combustion and a 30% reduction in fuel consumption and emissions. In addition, the system helps to reduce NOx emissions by 75% and the engines are already prepared for the use of HVO fuel, further reducing emissions.

A commitment to sustainability

The Giove Jet represents an important step in the “green” transition of the Lauro Group, which in recent years had already started a refit of some units of its fleet. The goal is to reduce the environmental impact of maritime transport and offer a more sustainable service to passengers.

The statements of the protagonists

"Our city has a peculiarity that it shares with very few others in the world: having its own infrastructures such as port and airport within the city. This forces us, more than others, to commit to sustainable transport", declared the mayor of Naples Gaetano Manfredi.

“We aim for sustainability, we have always tried to anticipate the times to have a competitive advantage: now we celebrate this milestone but we are already projecting ourselves towards a future that could be hydrogen”, underlined the former senator Salvatore Lauro, long-term captain and shareholder of the group.

"Taking advantage of my previous professional experiences, I can only underline one fact: success always comes from the harmony between management and collaborators. It is important that all the actors involved feel part of a common project", stated the president of Alilauro Vladimiro De Nunzio.

“An important project, which allows us to raise the level of environmental protection beyond the EU standards currently in force and which we have completed thanks to the support of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan”, explained Alilauro CEO Eliseo Cuccaro.

A step forward for maritime transport

The Giove Jet is a concrete example of how it is possible to combine efficiency, comfort and safety with environmental protection. Its innovative propulsion system represents an important step forward for maritime transport and paves the way for a more sustainable future.
