Napoli Silent Dance: a unique event for the International Dance Day.
Reservations are almost sold out for Napoli Silent Dance/Zitti Zitti. This performance, promoted by the City of Naples , was organized in honor of International Dance Day, established in 1982 by UNESCO's International Dance Council.
Celebration of the art of dance at dawn at Rotonda Diaz
On Sunday, April 28, at dawn (around 6 am), the Rotonda Diaz will fill with dancers and choreographers to commemorate the famous choreographer Jean-Georges Noverre, known as the father of modern ballet.
Spectators will have the unique opportunity to watch a silent dance performance, listening to music played live by musicians through headphones. Or they can simply enjoy the unique atmosphere of the show as the sun rises over the coastal city.
Napoli Silent Dance/Zitti Zitti is a concept by Gabriella Stazio, who also directs the choreography. The performance will try to celebrate the art of dance, involving over 20 choreographers and artists from the Italian contemporary dance scene, together with the dancers of the Compagnia Movimento Danza. The music and DJ set will be curated by Francesco Giangrande, with the assistance of the sound engineer Alessandro Messina.
Combining dance with the urban context
The Napoli Silent Dance/Zitti Zitti project connects the art of dance to the urban environment, offering a unique performance experience. The music in headphones will become the catalyst for the performance, transforming the individual listening experience and revolutionizing the concept of live. At the same time, the quiet of the waterfront at dawn will provide a unique and unexpected soundtrack.
The premiere of Juxtaposing dance and sound represents a further attempt by Gabriella Stazio to underline the anthropological meaning of dance. “It is a site-specific event inspired by the Silent Parties phenomenon,” explains the choreographer. “The inclusion of the event in urban contexts allows for an unconventional enjoyment of art and the city, without creating interference for others and fully respecting the performance venues. The event does not use artificial lights, but takes place at dawn with natural light, and the music is transmitted only through headphones to minimize the acoustic impact.”
Among the choreographers who will take part in the initiative there are names of the caliber of Ahmed Ahmmmed Safyeldein Aowd, Floriana Aprea, Marco Casagrande, Valeria D'Antonio, Nicolò Giorgini, Nicolas Capitello Grimaldi, Sara Lupoli and many others, including Gabriella Stazio herself.
