On April 30th, the British pianist and composer will be joined by the Salerno Jazz Orchestra conducted by Stefano Giuliano
With the British style of pianist, composer and singer Anthony Strong and the Mediterranean verve of the Salerno Jazz Orchestra directed by Maestro Stefano Giuliano, Pompeii celebrates International Jazz Day again this year.
The appointment is for Tuesday 30 April 2024 at the “Di Costanzo-Mattiello” theatre (in via Sacra 39) at 20,30:XNUMX pm. Free admission, subject to availability. The event “Salerno Jazz Orchestra meets Anthony Strong”, included in the global programme of the International Jazz Day, is sponsored by the Municipality of Pompeii and takes place under the aegis of UNESCO and the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz.
A true English man of old, Anthony Strong has already conquered the audiences of the main international festivals. With his tailored tuxedo and his sober charm, the 39-year-old pianist, composer and singer happily embodies the role of jazz gentleman that is often attributed to him.
His vocals and piano style combine with an energy that entertains audiences at all his live shows.

For the April 30 concert in Pompeii with Anthony Strong, the Salerno Jazz Orchestra presents a varied repertoire of jazz and pop jazz music. Founded in 2007 to support the Salerno jazz movement, through a right mix of musicians consolidated in the national scene and young emerging artists, the orchestra today is the symbol of jazz music "made in Salerno". A commitment that Sjo has always carried out at great levels, interfacing with increasingly high-profile partners and performing repertoire arranged by great names.
Proclaimed in 2011 by UNESCO, in collaboration with the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz, International Jazz Day aims to raise public awareness of the role of jazz music as an educational tool and – as UNESCO recalled – “for the pursuit of human dignity, democracy and civil rights: it has given strength to the fight against discrimination and racism”.
With the April 30 concert, the Pompeii municipal administration accepted the proposal of Gianpiero De Honestis, a lawyer and jazz musician who has been working to promote and raise awareness of jazz since 2011.
"Even the city of Pompeii – declared the mayor Carmine Lo Sapio – celebrates the International Day with which UNESCO recognized Jazz Music as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2011 for its diplomatic role as an art capable of uniting people in every corner of the world. International Jazz Day is an opportunity for Pompeii to strengthen its ongoing commitment both to the highly complex and multifaceted musical culture of jazz and to the educational, formative, and civic values that jazz can convey, which lawyer Gianpiero De Honestis helps to spread and strengthen.
