The prefect of Avellino, Paola Spena, has appointed the prefect Paolo d'Attilio as commissioner of the municipality of Avellino following the confirmation of the resignation of the mayor, Gianluca Festa, presented on March 26.
At the same time, the procedure for dissolving the city council was started. D'Attilio took office in the late morning.
Mayor Festa, after the twenty days granted by law, confirmed his resignation submitted following his registration in the register of suspects in the investigations conducted by the Avellino Public Prosecutor's Office on contracts, contracts and sponsorships of the municipality of Avellino which see a total of eight people under investigation, including a city councilor, Guido Guerriero, and a top manager of the capital city, Filomena Smiraglia, both of whom have since resigned.
They are accused of criminal conspiracy aimed at corruption, bid rigging, abuse and omission of official duties.
