The deputy prosecutor of the Anti-Mafia District Office of Naples, Fabrizio Vanorio, has requested 7 and a half years of imprisonment for the brothers Antonio and Nicola Diana, accused of external complicity in mafia association in the trial currently taking place before the Court of Santa Maria Capua Vetere.
According to the prosecution, the Diana brothers, sons of Mario Diana, an innocent victim of organized crime, owners of an important plastic recycling company, had close ties with the faction of the Casalesi clan led by the boss Michele Zagaria.
“Fake” anti-mafia commitment: Vanorio defined the Diana brothers’ anti-mafia commitment as a mere “license of legality” used to hide their real ties to the Camorra. “They hid behind the fake anti-mafia commitment to be credible in the eyes of justice,” the prosecutor declared.
“Even the reports of the attacks were fake.”
Money laundering for the clan: According to the prosecution, the Diana brothers' companies were used by the clan to launder money. "With their companies, by cashing checks, the clan could evade anti-money laundering systems and pay salaries to its members," Vanorio said.
The Dianas, nicknamed “the repezzati”, are said to have made a pact with the clan, obtaining in exchange protection and operational tranquility which allowed them to reach a privileged entrepreneurial position in the clan's area of influence.
The accusations of the collaborators of justice:
The charges against the Diana brothers are based mainly on the statements of numerous collaborators of justice, including Attilio Pellegrino, Massimiliano Caterino and the entrepreneur Francesco Zagaria, all former close collaborators of Michele Zagaria.
The Diana brothers, who have always professed their innocence, have denied any links with the Camorra and have claimed that they were victims of extortion and intimidation by the clan.
Today the prosecutor Vanorio also requested the dismissal of the case due to the death of the defendant against Armando Diana, uncle of Antonio and Nicola. The trial will continue with the hearings of the defense witnesses.
