A woman, a victim of beatings by her ex-partner, documented the attacks with a macabre photo album: shots of bruises and wounds, tangible evidence of an endless nightmare.
The man, blinded by jealousy, refused to accept the end of the relationship and continued to torment his ex with constant harassment. The woman, tired and frightened, found the courage to report the abuse, handing over to the Carabinieri the photos that tell the story of her terrible experience.
Her ex tried to reconnect, convinced that their relationship still had something to offer. However, she disagreed. Her desire to rebuild their bond was nothing more than a prelude to an escalation of violence.
They had dinner together, with her confident they could remain friends and him hoping they could become something more. Then the request to get back together and her refusal. Then the violence. The man followed her to her house, and she let him in to avoid a public scene.
At the sound of the door closing, the blows continued. Kicks and punches without any mercy. The woman vomited and then lost consciousness. Her mother was present and watched as her daughter was beaten. She tried to free her from the hands of her ex but to no avail.
The Carabinieri arrived shortly thereafter and took the victim to the hospital. She was given a 40-day prognosis. The attacker was arrested for mistreatment and stalking and is currently in prison, awaiting trial.
A warning against domestic violence
This story, sadly not so rare, is a warning against domestic violence, a scourge that still affects too many women. It's important to remember that they are not alone, that law enforcement agencies and support centers exist to help them report and escape these dramatic situations.
The strength and courage of the victim
Despite the violence she suffered, the woman found the strength to report her tormentor and put an end to this nightmare. Her story is an example of courage and hope for all women who suffer abuse and who still haven't found the strength to ask for help.
