Castellammare, investigation into the death of barman Salvatore Scotognella

An investigation is underway into the road accident that occurred shortly before dawn today that resulted in the death of 28-year-old Salvatore Scotognella and the injuries of a co-worker who was accompanying him.

The accident occurred along the road called Via Statale Sorrentina that runs from Ponte Persica, a neighborhood on the northern outskirts of Castellammare di Stabia, to the motorway toll booths.

The scooter with Scotognella and her colleague on it crashed into a lorry that was parked because it had broken down.

The Sorrento traffic police, which is conducting the investigation, coordinated by the Torre Annunziata Prosecutor's Office, has carried out the surveys and has also questioned the driver of the truck. They want to understand whether parking in that narrow street is permitted and whether all safety and danger warning measures had been adopted.

In Castellammare, meanwhile, the death of the young barman is being mourned. He worked at the Vinny bar on Via Virgilio, a few steps from the San Leonardo hospital, and was well-liked by everyone. Many on social media have been remembering his friendliness, his professionalism, and his courtesy at the counter since this morning.

We are waiting for the autopsy to establish the cause of death and then return the body to the family for a funeral.
