Judge Rosaria Dello Stritto of the Santa Maria Capua Vetere court acquitted all fifteen buffalo farmers and the trade unionist accused of blocking the Domiziana state road between Castel Volturno and Mondragone last May.
The decision was made because the fact does not exist. The protest took place suddenly as part of the mobilization of Caserta farmers against the Campania Region's plan for the eradication of brucellosis and tuberculosis in buffalo.
The breeders held a picket for a few days at the Agnena roundabout on the Domiziana with 40 tractors, while still allowing cars to pass. Among those who were acquitted are also two leaders of the Caserta breeders and farmers, such as the trade unionist and spokesperson of the Coordination Unit for the Defense of the Buffalo Heritage, Gianni Fabbris, and Adriano Noviello.
The prosecutor of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, Nicola Camerlingo, had requested the referral to trial of the 16 people involved. The defense team includes Roberto Barbato, Nando Letizia, Cipriano Di Tella and Tommaso Zara.
