LThe Italian Football Federation (FIGC) prosecutor's office has launched an investigation into the banner displayed by Denzel Dumfries during Inter's Scudetto celebration parade. Images of the banner have been acquired and a case will be opened in the coming hours.
The Dutch defender could be accused of violating Article 4 of the Sports Justice Code, which imposes on members the obligation of “loyalty, fairness and probity” towards other clubs and their colleagues. During the celebratory parade that passed through the streets of Milan, Dumfries was photographed while holding a banner given to him by some fans.
The banner featured an image of the player holding the reins of a dog, representing Theo Hernandez, a defender for AC Milan, rivals of Inter. The FIGC is now assessing whether this gesture could constitute a violation of the principles of loyalty and fair play. Dumfries could be called to answer for his actions before the FIGC Disciplinary Commission.
