A movie-like scene unfolded this morning in the historic center of Naples, where a 37-year-old man, Vincenzo Cincinnato, stole a car in Piazza Garibaldi, then attempted to run over the owner.
The man, after starting the stolen car, fled, pursued by a small fleet of scooter riders who had witnessed the scene. The riders invited the car owner to climb on board with them to begin the chase.
While racing through the crowded streets of the center, Cincinnato rammed several cars and, on Via della Veterinaria, hit a 25-year-old motorcyclist, violently throwing him to the ground.
Abandoning the stolen car on the street, Cincinnato attempted to escape on foot, but was stopped and arrested by the Carabinieri of the radiomobile unit of Napoli.
The man will have to answer for improper robbery, personal injury and failure to provide assistance. The young biker, however, was hospitalized in yellow code at the Villa Betania clinic, but his life is not in danger.
Cincinnato is now in prison, awaiting his appearance before a judge to answer for his crimes.
The episode caused great concern among the citizens, who witnessed the frantic phases of the chase. Once again, the readiness of the riders and the timely intervention of the police allowed the person responsible for a serious crime to be brought to justice.
