We want to light a beacon, in defense of Naples' last blue lung." These are the words of the representatives of the protection coordination "Chi tene 'o Mare," which includes 16 environmental associations, including the Gaiola Underwater Park and the Special Conservation Area "Seabeds of Gaiola and Nisida."
Today (Sunday 28), until 17 pm, the event “Let's defend paradise” will be held in the spaces of the marine protected area, also organized with the support of the musician Maurizio Capone, who has always been sensitive to environmental issues.
During the event, there will be gazebos of the coordination associations, which will address various aspects of sea protection, with exhibitions and educational-recreational activities.
Starting at 15:XNUMX pm, there will be a performance by Capone “Io mi Rifiuto”: a cry against marine pollution, where all those present will be involved in “playing” marine waste in a choral percussion concert. There will also be a small exhibition of the Museum of Damage and the Caretta Crime Scene curated by the Domizia Association.
“There are numerous risks looming over our sea,” says Maurizio Simeone, director of the underwater park, “starting with the project included in the Environmental Redevelopment and Urban Regeneration Plan of the Bagnoli-Coroglio SIN (Site of National Interest), which paradoxically not only does not eliminate the indecent overflow discharge already existing, as requested several times, but also provides for the doubling of the flow rate of the Arena Sant'Antonio sewer collector, with the consequent construction of a second enormous “sewer overflow” on the Coroglio beach, within the Special Conservation Area “Seabeds of Gaiola and Nisida”.
All the associations of the coordination subscribe to the technical-scientific report presented by the Submerged Park, of negative opinion on the realization of this project and ask the Ministry of the Environment to stop its realization.
“Going back to the past – concludes Simeone – would be an unforgivable mistake, after years of sacrifices and grassroots work. Let us remember that a spill of sewage from the overflow of the sin (caused by two days of bad weather), caused the bathing ban in Naples, in the summer of 2021.
