The MANN – National Archaeological Museum of Naples is ready to host a fascinating exhibition that combines art and science, thanks to the works selected from the national competition of Art&Science Across Italy. With over 1300 initial proposals, the judges have identified 54 authors of the most significant works, which will be on display until May 13.
Among the most striking works, “Violation” stands out, a representation of the breaking of symmetries in nature, created by Gabriele Baldo, Samuele Invernizzi and Antonio Madrau of the Salesian Don Bosco High School in Treviglio. This work earned first place in the national competition, followed by “Promoter of complexity” by Vincenzo D'Ambrosio, Gabriel Leonard Ciobanu and Antonio Cristiano of the Braucci Scientific High School in Caivano, in second place, and “Explosion of a supernova” by Giulia Nastasia, Janel Shanaia Atienz Castillo and Alfredo Capoccia of the “Ciardo Pellegrino” Art and Dance High School in Lecce, in third place.
The award ceremony for the winners has just concluded at the Teatro Acacia in Naples, where 54 students received scholarships to attend a master's degree on the relationship between art and science at the INFN Gran Sasso National Laboratories or at CERN in Geneva.
The 2022-2024 edition of Art&Science Across Italy involved more than 7100 students from 194 schools across Italy. Over 1300 works were exhibited in 19 regional exhibitions and, now, at the MANN in Naples. The themes of the works range from scientific disciplines, such as physics, biology, geology and mathematics, and are the result of a two-year training and orientation course curated by researchers from the INFN Sections and local universities.
This project, which combines art and science, aims to bring young people closer to the world of scientific research through a creative and stimulating language. Since the first edition, Art&Science Across Italy has involved over 16.000 students from 15 Italian regions, demonstrating the great interest and enthusiasm of young people for this initiative that combines creativity and knowledge.
