“I thought that since my arrival we could have done better, scoring the 2-0 would have made our life easier.” These are the words of Francesco Calzona, Napoli coach, speaking to DAZN microphones after the 1-1 away draw against Udinese. “In the first half, with a line of five defenders in front, we had to move the ball more”, analyzed Calzona.
“We didn’t go deep enough, with a cumbersome ball circulation. In the second half, however, we did better, it’s a shame that this is the third match in which we haven’t managed to find the victory.
When the game gets dirty we are not good”, admits the Italian coach. “That’s why I asked them to keep possession of the ball away from our goal, because I feared their physicality in the goal area.”
“We don't feel comfortable in these situations because we are a team that plays clean football, so we should avoid confusing actions like the one that led to the goal. We certainly should have made it 2-0, it would have certainly made our life easier.
I thought that since my arrival we could have done better, unfortunately it wasn't like that. The future of Napoli will be decided by the management, but it's clear that we had the qualities to do better in an unfortunate year that should be closed on a high note".
"The team – continued Calzona – Lately it's much more orderly and offers good football, even if sometimes we're a bit fussy, but that's already a lot considering how the season has gone.
My future? I have not been offered anything, if another coach is chosen for next season he will certainly bring his staff.
These rumours about next season are not good for the team, but we have to accept them because we are in a big place. The possibility of returning to Europe is still there, but what we are doing is not enough”.
