Yesterday evening, around 19:30 pm, an off-duty Forestry Carabiniere saved the life of an 89-year-old woman from a fire that broke out in her home in Rocchetta e Croce, in the province of Caserta.
The soldier, while visiting his parents in the small town of Caserta, noticed a thick column of smoke and flames coming from the roof of a nearby house. He immediately reached the house and, with the help of an acquaintance, entered inside.
Inside, he found the elderly owner who, heedless of the danger, was arguing heatedly with her 60-year-old daughter who was trying in vain to convince her to move away from the fireplace and leave the house.
The Carabiniere, realizing the gravity of the situation and the imminent danger, took charge of the woman and, with the help of her daughter and an acquaintance, brought her to safety in the nearby courtyard.
A few minutes later, the Teano firefighters intervened on the scene and put out the fire, which in the meantime had partially destroyed the wooden roof covering. The 118 health workers, who also arrived on the scene, confirmed the good health conditions of the two women.
The timely and courageous intervention of the Forestry Carabiniere was fundamental in saving the elderly woman's life.
