The Ente Autonomo Volturno (EAV) announces the closure of the Circumvesuviana Naples-Volla line for 3 years starting from 1 July 2024. The closure is necessary to allow for urgent extraordinary maintenance work that will improve the safety and regularity of the service.
The line will no longer pass through the Centro Direzionale, but will divert to the San Giorgio a Cremano station. Passengers heading to Naples will have to change trains.
“The Centro Direzionale station of the Circumvesuviana must be closed for 3 years for substantial total renovation works, shared with the Municipality of Naples which will oversee the construction; therefore the line from Baiano will no longer be able to pass through the Centro Direzionale but will divert to the San Giorgio station, where those heading to Naples will have to change trains”.
This was announced by Eav, the public transport company of the Campania Region. Starting from 1 July 2024, in particular, the line will be completely interrupted to allow for urgent extraordinary maintenance work "which - a note underlines - will give greater safety and regularity to the line itself, which will be reopened starting from September 11 and, as mentioned, will lead to San Giorgio a Cremano. This is a forced choice due to the emergence of extraordinary maintenance needs, similar to those often foreseen by Rfi (such as, for example, in our territory, with the closure of the Naples-Castellammare section scheduled for the period of July and August). For the entire duration of the interruptions, substantial replacement-integrative car services will be planned".
The works include:
Waterproofing of the tunnel between Naples and Volla: The tunnel was built 30 years ago and has water infiltrations and cracks. The work will make the tunnel waterproof and safe.
Dismantling and reconstruction of the railway section: The existing railway section will be dismantled and replaced with a new one.
Modernization and maintenance of the Volla-Baiano section: Modernization and maintenance work will be carried out on the Volla-Baiano section, including the replacement of switches, control boxes and power units.
EAV stresses that the closure was planned to minimize disruption. The work will be carried out during the summer, when schools are closed and work activities are reduced.
Replacement and supplementary car services will be available for the duration of the interruption. EAV will also organize meetings with user associations and with the Mayors of the affected municipalities to present the work plan.
