Federico II University, in the context of the celebrations for its eighth centenary, is preparing to take the field not only in the academic world, but also in sports. Starting tomorrow, 64 teams made up of students, professors and technical-administrative staff from all 26 Departments of the University, will battle it out in four different disciplines: five-a-side football, women's volleyball, mixed doubles tennis and mixed 5x4 relay.
The program of sports competitions is rich and engaging, with 25 soccer teams, 12 volleyball teams, 16 tennis teams and 11 relay teams that will compete throughout the month of May. The athletes, mainly from the student body with 327 participants, will be supported by doctoral students, researchers, teachers and technical-administrative staff.
The kick-off will be on Saturday, May 4th at 10:5 a.m. with a volleyball tournament at the sports facilities on Via Campegna, home of Cus Napoli – Centro Universitario Sportivo, a partner of the organization together with the Comitato Regionale Coni Campania. Five-a-side football will instead begin on Monday, May 6th at 17:XNUMX p.m., with a tournament dedicated to the memory of Fabio Buoninsegni, a student of the University who recently passed away.
The involvement of sports institutions is evident, with the participation of the AIA (Italian Referees Association) which will provide referees for all football matches thanks to the regional coordinator Fabio Maresca. Tuesday 7 May will be the turn of the tennis tournament, followed by the relay.
The awards ceremony for all competitions will take place on June 3 during the Federico II Student Day, which will be held in the university at the Church of Saints Marcellino and Festo. Local companies, such as the Capri Group with the Alcott and Gutteridge brands, Givova and Gruppo Nefrocenter, have also decided to contribute to this sporting event on the occasion of the 800th anniversary of the Federico II University.
Professor Guido Iaccarino, University Sports Delegate, expressed his satisfaction for the great interest and participation in the event, which involved the entire Federico II community, from student representatives to Department directors and secretaries, from the General Management to the Senate and the Board of Directors, demonstrating a strong desire for sports within the university.
