Last farewell to Franco Di Mare, his wife: "Forgive me if I don't smile"

Under a light rain, the funeral of Franco Di Mare, a journalist and RAI executive who passed away last Friday at the age of 68 from mesothelioma, took place this morning. The ceremony was held in the Church of the Artists in Piazza del Popolo in Rome, packed with friends, colleagues, and family.

The funeral was officiated by Don Walter Insero, who remembered Di Mare as a man "deeply generous who exuded a protective sense towards others." The priest emphasized his strength of mind and his reserve in facing the disease: "He did not want to burden others with his pain with great nobility of soul."

The wife Giulia Berdini, moved and saddened, took the floor to say a final farewell to her husband: "Franco, forgive me if I don't smile, maybe tomorrow. I can't do it today. You were a companion like the ones you read about in books, and I hope I made you happy. Lilli, I love you so much and intensely."

Giulia Berdini: "I hope I made you happy."

La daughter Stella, visibly affected, found comfort in the words of Beppe Fiorello, a family friend and colleague of Franco Di Mare.

An indelible memory from Beppe Fiorello

Fiorello he wanted to remember Di Mare as a passionate man and an impeccable professional, underlining his deep bond with his daughter Stella: "Franco will remain forever. The film recounted the highest and most poetic part of his life, which is Stella."

The actor then shared a message he had sent to Di Mare after an interview with Fabio Fazio: "I wrote to him that he looked good despite everything, energetic and strong as ever, concluding the message with 'let's see each other soon.' That's how it went, but we'll see each other somewhere."

Among those present at the funeral, in addition to family and close friends, there were also many of Di Mare's colleagues, including Bruno Vespa, Clemente Mimun, Francesco Giorgino, Serena bortone, paola saluzzzi, the CEO of Rai Robert Sergio and the general manager Giampaolo rossi.

The death of Franco Di Mare leaves a great void in the world of Italian journalism, where he was known and esteemed for his professionalism, his humanity and his passion for his work.
