For the car market in Campania, 2023 closed with a strongly positive sign in terms of sales (+ 11,4%), raising serious doubts about the sustainability of this trend also during 2024.
Well, these fears were easily dispelled by a strong start to the new year , with the Campania market showing a positive trend, and growth affecting both the new and used sectors, to the delight of all operators involved in car transport in Campania, especially on digital platforms like Macingo.
How the data on the car market changes
Going into more detail, ACI informs us that in the first two months of the year, 11.565 new cars were registered in the Public Automobile Registry (PRA), with an increase of 11,2% compared to the first two months of the previous year.
The largest provinces recorded the best performances. Naples brought in 5.552 new registrations, for an increase of 16,2%, while Salerno contributed 2.339 first registrations, an increase of 8,3%. In the rest of the region, only Benevento reported a countertrend, with a contraction of 1,6%.
Used is also good
In addition to the new market, transactions in the used market were also positive. In the region, ownership transfers, net of so-called mini-transfers (i.e., temporary transfers in the dealer's name before the sale to the end customer), totaled 49.988 in the first two months of the year, a 17,7% increase compared to the same period the previous year.
Here too, the positive trend of the larger provinces can be well underlined. Salerno and Naples closed the two-month period with a growth of 18,6%, while the province of Avellino positioned itself immediately behind with an excellent +18,1%.
Radiation data
The data on car deregistrations are also positive , which still feed a significant portion of the Campania car transport transacted by the online market leader such as Macingo.com , towards operators authorised for demolition.
The ACI data reveal that the vehicles deregistered from the PRA in Campania were equal to 15.579 units, for an overall increase of 7,3%, which reaches the maximum percentage values in Avellino (+ 10,5%) and Naples (+ 8,8%). Benevento, also in this case, is characterized by being the only area of Campania with a counter-trend, with a particularly evident negative sign (- 13,4%).
Reconciling these data with those expressed above, we obtain a replacement rate in Campania for the period January–February 2024 equal to 1,34 . This means that for every 100 new cars, 134 were removed from circulation. The figure is even higher in Naples, at 1,44.
It should be noted that the Campania data is much higher than the national one: ACI data for the whole Italian territory states that registrations were higher than cancellations, with a value of 0,81. Therefore, in Italy, out of 100 cars placed on the market, only 81 were withdrawn.
At this point it is also legitimate to ask what could happen in the coming months and whether or not there will be changes in this trend. While waiting to know the official data for the months following those of the aforementioned survey, some forecasts maintain that the double-digit positive trend should continue at least for the entire first half of the year.
As for the second half of the year, a slight slowdown could occur, which should not, however, prevent 2024 from closing with a stable positive sign in terms of first registrations and used car sales.
