Naples. Car set on fire for not paying the illegal parking attendant. Unfortunately, this also happens. It's the first time. Someone has raised the bar of extortion demands. A strong criminal message typical of the Camorra clans.
But this time the victim is an innocent citizen driver who did his duty by refusing to pay the extortion fee to the illegal parking attendant.
It happened in one of the most popular areas of youth nightlife in Napoli: Piazza San Pasquale, in the area of the bars. The investigators have already collected the complaint of the unfortunate driver and have examined the images of the video surveillance cameras in the area to identify the person responsible.
Most likely it was an arson attack. According to some witnesses, the fire was started by an illegal parking attendant who acted out of revenge because the owners of the car refused to pay the parking racket.
“I know the owners of the car. They told me that after parking they had an argument with the valet. And then around 3 this happened. It’s not that difficult to draw conclusions…”.
This is the story told by one of the residents who spoke to Francesco Emilio Borrelli, MP for the Green-Left alliance.
“First of all we will ask that light be shed on the matter so that we can have certainties”, explained Borrelli.
Borrelli: "This is a typical Camorra modus operandi."
And then he added: "But the modus operandi fully corresponds to the extortionate, intimidating and violent method of certain parking abusers who are in the pay of the clans. So, beyond this single episode, is the Government sure that a prison sentence is absolutely not necessary for these individuals given that they are truly dangerous criminals and closely linked to the Camorra?
We shouldn’t wait for them to start fires and cause other damage before sending them behind bars. Their criminal history and the way they control the parking market would be enough.”
The news of Naples in recent years is full of extortion episodes and threats by illegal parking attendants against motorists, even causing damage to their cars, but never before had it reached a point like this.
