Three people were arrested by the Carabinieri during an operation that put an end to a scam targeting the elderly. The operations center was located in a fourth-floor apartment in Vico Parrettari, in the Mercato district of Naples.
The scammers contacted the victims, mostly elderly people, pretending to be lawyers or police officers and inventing stories of road accidents caused by their children.
Under the pretext of paying bail to avoid the arrest of their loved ones, the scammers tricked their victims into handing over money or valuables.
The Carabinieri of the Borgoloreto station and of the Stella operational unit, thanks to a trap phone call with a 72 year old woman from Messina, managed to identify the scammers and catch them red-handed.
During the raid, the Carabinieri arrested Saverio Ianniello, Domenico De Martino and Roberto Messina.
In the apartment, 10 cell phones, over 1600 euros in cash, a notebook with the details of the scams, 4 SIM cards and a gram of marijuana were seized.
The arrested, accused of attempted fraud, were placed under house arrest.
