Naples. A daring theft occurred in Chiaiano, in the Santa Croce ad Orsolone area, in the past few days. The thieves robbed an apartment in broad daylight, under the astonished and frightened eyes of the neighborhood residents.
The incident was filmed on a cell phone by neighbors. The footage shows the thieves rummaging through the apartment, ignoring the shouts of bystanders trying to stop them and alert the police. Indeed, the thieves threatened the person filming the scene, saying, "The next one (to be robbed) is yours."
According to witnesses, the thieves they allegedly took away a loot of over 4 thousand euros in cash and valuables.
The incident has provoked strong indignation among residents, who denounce the increase in crime in the area and the lack of safety. "As we've been reporting for some time now, these criminals are becoming increasingly unscrupulous, allowing themselves the luxury of operating in broad daylight without fear of being seen. Indeed, as we see in this scene, it's those who witness the theft who fear repercussions for trying to stop the thieves.", says MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli, who has received several reports from citizens.
Borrelli asks the Minister of the Interior to keep his word and increase the number of officers in the area. "There's too much impunity, there's a lack of clear convictions, enforcement is scarce, and in many areas it's completely nonexistent, so people aren't even safe in their own homes. We repeat it, and we won't stop saying it until the Interior Minister keeps his word. We need many more officers here.", concludes Borrelli.
