This change is intended to improve broadcast quality and increase the number of available channels. Over the coming months, all digital terrestrial channels will gradually migrate to this new system, although the full transition date has not yet been determined.
For viewers, the first step will be to check whether their television is compatible with the new transmission standard. To do so, simply tune into channel 558 of digital terrestrial, where Rai Sport is broadcast. If the channel is visible, the device is already ready to receive the new signal. Otherwise, it will be necessary to purchase a decoder or change the television.
However, many areas of Italy, such as mountain communities, some coastal areas and islands, still face difficulties in receiving the “old” digital terrestrial signal. These areas cannot compensate for the problem of obsolete antennas with broadband. For those who live in these areas and for those who want to prepare for future changes, the best solution is to get a satellite dish and tune into the free tivùsat satellite platform.
