Tommasino Murder: the sad truth comes to light 15 years later and with it, unfortunately for the family members who in recent years have always asked to know the names of the instigators and the motive, comes some unpleasant news.
Article Key Points
According to the investigating judge Marco Giordano of the Court of Napoli who, on the orders of the DDA, signed the precautionary order, obtaining the arrest of six people, including the two alleged instigators, Gino Tommasino was tied "by a double thread" to the D'Alessandro clan.
Indeed, he had close relations with Sergio Mosca (one of the instigators), father-in-law of Pasquale d'Alessandro, brother of Vincenzo (the other instigator) and head of the clan of the same name from Castellammare di Stabia.
The D'Alessandro clan decided to kill him because he was spending the clan's name improperly. It was the first-hour repentants like Salvatore Blesivo and Raffaele Polito (two members of the death squad already convicted and passed into law) who revealed the details.
This would be the motive that, according to the Naples DDA, triggered the murder, in an ambush that took place on Viale Europa, a few hundred meters from the home of Tommasino, who that afternoon of February 3, 2009, was in his car, taking his son, who was 15 at the time, to soccer practice, miraculously unharmed.
The repentant Salvatore Belsivo: "Sergio Mosca gave me the order to kill him"
Belviso himself describes in great detail the actions of the commando and also the motive: “Mosca Sergio gave the order to kill Tommasino Luigi directly to me and, in giving it to me, he told me that Tommasino was a person who, having become politically important thanks to the support of the D'Alessandro clan, had not respected his commitments by distancing himself”.
Polito also referred, during his statements, that the reasons for the murder were to be traced back to an alleged theft of money, 30 thousand euros. A piece of information that he claims to have received from Belviso. The order was allegedly given by Sergio Mosca (who initially only wanted to wound him in the legs) to which the clan leader Vincenzo D'Alessandro did not oppose “it's better if we kill him right away, get him out of our way.”
But of this close bond of Gino Tommasino and the D'Alessandro clan had spoken about it in a 2012 report by the then repentant Francesco Belviso, father of Salvatore, known as Ciccio 'o mister for his footballing past and as a football coach but above all brother-in-law of Teresa Martone, wife of the late godfather Michele D'Alessandro.
Belviso, who died in prison a few years ago, had explained to the prosecutors of the Naples DDA:
“…A meeting took place at the Spa in which I, Gino Tommasino (the municipal councilor of the Democratic Party, who later died in an ambush on February 3, 2009), Omissis (another municipal councilor of the PD of the time whose name Belviso mentions), a representative of the Company with a partner and Cavaliere Renato participated. During that meeting there was also friction between the representatives of the company, Gino Tommasino and OMISSIS, a municipal councilor of the PD”.
All this because the political referents had placed, out of four available positions, three people close to them, leaving only one position for the clan. “They complained – continues Francesco Belviso – because while they had made four jobs available to the family, three of the positions had been taken over by OMISSIS, a municipal councilor of the PD, and Gino Tommasino”.
The repentant: "He had not respected the commitment with the clan on the workplace"
According to what was said by the collaborator of justice, Tommasino had hired a person close to him and the other municipal councilor of the PD had hired two brothers (both with criminal records and who for some years had controlled the illicit business in nearby Scafati with other family members and Camorristi - ed.) who were related to him.
“During the meeting, Cavaliere Renato – the repentant states – expressed his disinterest in the job and said that he would give an answer later. In the end, I asked Tommasino to hire my nephew [...] normal procedure was followed for the hiring”.
After the meeting at the spa between some of the representatives of the city government majority, "Renato Knight he came to the bar and asked me to pick up 'the parking guy' at Cantieri. Renato Cavaliere told me it was an order from Enzo D'Alessandro. I went to pick up OMISSIS, the representative of the municipal company, and took him to the place indicated to me by Cavaliere Renato. During the trip to Scanzano I spoke to OMISSIS only about the sponsorship of the football team”.
Francesco Belviso then accompanies this person to the place indicated to him and waits for him to return to take it back from where he had taken it. About half an hour passes. Upon returning "I noticed - says the collaborator of justice - that OMISSIS was in a bad mood and I asked him what had happened. OMISSIS told me that during the meeting with Enzo D'Alessandro he had been asked for a gift at Easter and Christmas. When I learned this, I expressed the desire to go back to complain to Enzo D'Alessandro and Cavaliere Renato but OMISSIS then put his hand on the steering wheel and convinced me to leave".
