Ercolano is preparing to welcome the new Piazza Carlo di Borbone, whose inauguration is scheduled for Monday, May 6 at 9:45. Situated on an area of five thousand square meters overlooking the Archaeological Park, this square marks the beginning of an urban regeneration project that has transformed a neighborhood once marked by organized crime into a lively public space.
The opening ceremony will be attended by the President of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca, and the Mayor of Ercolano, Ciro Buonajuto, who will celebrate this important milestone together. The project, launched in 2014, was made possible thanks to the collaboration between the Municipality of Ercolano (with Fondi Pics – Campania Region), the Ministry of Culture – Ercolano Archaeological Park and the Packard Humanities Institute – Istituto Packard Beni Culturali.
The opening of Piazza Carlo di Borbone is not only a sign of urban regeneration, but also of social regeneration. This public space will become a meeting place for the inhabitants of Ercolano and visitors, symbolizing the fusion between the ancient and modern city. This intervention, unique in its kind in Italy, will also allow you to admire the entire perimeter of the archaeological area and the Gulf of Naples from above.
Mayor Buonajuto stressed the importance of this project, calling it an extraordinary example of urban and social regeneration. Thanks to the involvement of local and state institutions, private partners and the community, it was possible to transform a once problematic area into a hub of development and growth for new generations.
“Let's free Ercolano from any dark 'past', let's preserve its splendid heritage and offer a concrete possibility of growth and development to the new generations thanks to this collective commitment that finds its strength in tourism, beauty and legality”, declared Mayor Buonajuto, highlighting the importance of a shared commitment for the future of the city.
