Violent attack in courtroom in Naples against deputy prosecutor Gloria Sanseverino during a trial for sexual assault.
The prosecutor, at the end of her closing speech in which she asked for a six-year prison sentence for the defendant, was the victim of a real assault by the man's mother.
As the president of the National Magistrates' Association explains: Napoli Ida Teresi, the woman railed against the magistrate and then grabbed her purse and threw it at her. Only the intervention of the lawyers present in the courtroom prevented the situation from degenerating further.
The episode provoked the harsh condemnation of the ANM which, in addition to expressing solidarity with the colleague, denounced the worrying lack of police presence inside the Palace of Justice.
“This very serious attack – states the district council of the magistrates' union – highlights once again the need to strengthen security measures to protect magistrates and all justice workers who are exposed to risks and dangers on a daily basis”.
The woman has been reported. The attack on the prosecutor Sanseverino is a very serious matter that cannot be underestimated. It is necessary that the competent institutions adopt all necessary measures to guarantee the safety of magistrates and all those who work in the judicial system.
