I Carabinieri del Nucleo Operativo e Radiomobile della Compagnia di Lamezia Terme hanno sgominato una banda di truffatori che, con la tecnica del “finto carabiniere”, raggirava persone anziane in diverse città d’Italia.
Three people were arrested in Naples, in the neighborhood Bridges, by order of the GIP of Palmi at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office.
The investigations allowed to ascertain the involvement of the arrested in three fraud episodes and two attempts, which occurred between December 2023 and January 2024.
The modus operandi:
The scammers contacted the victims, mostly elderly, by telephone, pretending to be police officers.
Using the excuse of the imminent arrest of one of their relatives, they convinced their victims to hand over money and gold as bail.
Once they had gained their trust, they sent their "collectors", who in turn pretended to be policemen or lawyers, to collect the money or valuables.
The victims: a 93-year-old from Besnate (Varese) was scammed out of 15.000 euros. Two other scam attempts were foiled in Gioia Tauro and Lamezia Terme, to the detriment of two people over seventy.
Thanks to careful investigative activity, the Carabinieri identified and arrested the members of the gang.
