They were inaugurated this morning, in the Royal Site of Carditello in San Tammaro (Caserta), the Royal Apartment and the Doric Temple of the Royal Bourbon Delight, an ancient estate originally intended for hunting, breeding and selection of royal breed horses, as well as for agricultural and dairy production.
The Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano, and the president of the Real Sito di Carditello Foundation, Maurizio Maddaloni, spoke together with the highest institutional authorities of the territory.
The Royal Site of Carditello was built around 1787, under Ferdinand IV of Bourbon, based on a design by the architect Francesco Collecini, collaborator of Luigi Vanvitelli.
"The presence of Minister Sangiuliano - declared Maurizio Maddaloni, president of the Foundation - testifies not only to the Government's special attention to the territory, but also to his personal determination to relaunch the Bourbon Palace. An action of great institutional courage, after years of neglect and abandonment, which will be decisive for the future of Carditello. The Royal Site of Carditello must become the Venaria Reale of the South".
The restorations were carried out by the Campania Regional General Secretariat of the Ministry which, after years of work, handed over the royal rooms to the Foundation.
“The Royal Apartment has been restored only partially by the Campania General Secretariat – he continued – and evidently still needs to be completed with the funds already partly allocated by the Minister.
Despite all the problems encountered, we act and reopen the rooms to the public, demonstrating our sense of responsibility and continuing to work in harmony with our members to return to the community this site with a remarkable historical, environmental and cultural heritage.
However, beyond the central building which still requires other appropriate recovery interventions, the site requires a vast and widespread restoration work with the identification of new and significant resources for the overall and definitive relaunch of Carditello”.
Minister Sangiuliano stated: “The Royal Palace of Carditello deserves a major relaunch project like Pompeii, whose supervision of contracts should be entrusted to the Carabinieri, just as happened in Pompeii.
Carditello is a wonderful site with great cultural and socioeconomic potential, we are working so that it can enter the cultural itineraries in a lasting way. Culture must not be the prerogative of large cities, but spread throughout the territory, because it is one of the coefficients on which the quality of life of citizens is measured”.
For the occasion, the Foundation has planned, in agreement with Poste Italiane, the commemorative postmark of the day.
The Royal Site of Carditello, considered for decades a symbol of degradation and abandonment in the Land of Fires, today, after having resisted the ravages of time and the ravages of crime, represents a model of rebirth and redemption for the entire territory.
