The concert of Salvatore Benincasa, a neomelodic singer originally from Rocca di Neto, was cancelled a few hours before the start.
The event, scheduled for tomorrow, May 4, in Piazza Giovanni Paolo II as part of the celebrations in honor of the Madonna delle Setteporte, was canceled by decision of the citizens' committee organizing the festival, on the input of the Crotone Police Chief Marco Giambra.
The decision was made following concerns about the lyrics of Benincasa's songs, which, according to Police Chief Giambra, "praise the bosses and sympathize with the negative values associated with the criminal world."
The singer is currently accused of concealing semi-automatic rifles with the aggravating circumstance of mafia in the trial against the Comito-Corigliano clan of Rocca di Neto. There is also speculation of his involvement with the American 'ndrangheta, with "tentacles that stretched all the way to New York".
The singer's repertoire includes songs with explicit titles such as “Figghiolu 'i 'ndrangheta'”, “Latitanti” and “Pe' i carcerati”, which confirm the concerns raised by Police Chief Giambra.
Recently, another Benincasa concert, scheduled in Teggiano (Salerno), was cancelled by the local police headquarters for the same reasons.
