Giusy De Micco, the 30-year-old candidate for the city council of cercola known as “Lady Caf”, returned home under house arrest after 10 days in prison. The woman, with no criminal record, had been arrested as part of an investigation by the DDA into the relationships between politics and clans in the municipality during the last municipal elections.
De Micco, registered on the Europa Verde list, is accused of having made an agreement with members of the Fusco-Ponticelli and De Micco-De Martino clans to obtain votes in exchange for money.
According to the Prosecutor's Office, the woman allegedly paid 1.800 euros to her father Giovanni and brother Sabino to obtain a package of votes in the working-class neighborhood of "Caravita". The accusations, for now brought on the basis of presumption of innocence, are based on wiretaps and environmental wiretaps.
The accusatory picture
The investigation hypothesizes that a group of people organized a “political-mafia electoral exchange” in Cercola to favor one of the four candidates for mayor and De Micco herself for the city council.
The attempts were unsuccessful, but led to the arrest of 7 people, 6 in prison and 1 under house arrest. The agreed price for the votes would have been 30 euros for the first round and 20 for the second round.
No suspects in the municipal council
It is important to point out that none of the defendants in the proceedings currently hold positions in the municipal administration of Cercola.
The granting of house arrest to De Micco was ordered by the investigating judge in consideration of the absence of criminal records and the possibility of a review of the precautionary profile pending the continuation of the criminal proceedings. The defense of the woman is entrusted to the lawyers Gabriele Esposito and Giacomo Pace.
