The Guardia di Finanza (Fiamme Gialle) of Ancona and officials from the Customs and Monopolies Agency have thwarted a massive drug trafficking operation in the Apulian port. During checks on a semi-trailer truck arriving from Greece, they discovered a shipment of over 2.100.000 doses of Indian-origin medicines, all without the necessary authorizations for import and distribution in Italy.
This is the largest seizure of illegal drugs ever recorded in Italy for this category. The estimated value of the cargo on the black market is around 20 million euros.
The seized drugs, destined for the black market, included: 1.700.000 doses of erectile dysfunction drugs: Sildenafil, Tadalafil and Vardenafil, known by brand names such as Kamagra, Cobra, Careforce, Sexforce and Vilitra.
The drugs were available in various forms, including gels, tablets, lozenges, and effervescent tablets.
Over 400.000 doses of drugs containing Gonadotropin: hormones to promote pregnancy, often used in the world of bodybuilders to increase muscle mass.
An unspecified amount of Preanailin: an anti-epileptic drug, often used to enhance the effects of drugs.

The driver of the semi-trailer has been reported to the Ancona Prosecutor's Office. The seized drugs will be destroyed to protect public health.
