Don Albino Ermini, an 88-year-old priest, embodies the passion for football and respect for memory in the heart of Umbria. Founder of the local team Romeo Menti di Allerona scalo back in 1958, he has maintained a strong bond with his lifelong love, Torino, and with the team that bears the name of a Granata legend.
On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Superga tragedy, which struck the Grande Torino in 1949, Don Albino invited both of his favorite teams to honor the memory of the fallen in every match. Romeo Menti, named in homage to the great right winger of the Granata, was founded by Don Albino himself together with the young people of the town, and he himself was its first president.
Despite his advanced age and retirement in the sector of the Sanctuary of Collevalenza di Todi, Don Albino continues to follow his Torino with fervor and to be interested in the fate of Romeo Menti, considering it almost a daughter. His desire is that both teams enhance young Italians, in order to perpetuate the legacy of the Grande Torino and honor the name they carry.
Retracing the history of Romeo Menti, Don Albino reveals how the passion for football has united the youth of the country, finding space also in a land made available by the construction companies of the Autostrada del Sole. From that moment began a long story that continues today.
Don Albino emphasizes the importance of football at a social level, highlighting the need for the confrontation on the field to be real and not domesticated, and for the rules to be respected. His voice represents a precious testimony of how sport can unite communities and pass on values of respect, commitment and memory.
