123 new agents for juvenile prisons

Starting July 8th, 123 new officers—53 women and 70 men—will begin service in Italian juvenile prisons. This marks the 183rd Penitentiary Police Cadet Course, an infusion of fresh strength into a sector that has long been struggling.

The Undersecretary of Justice, Andrea Ostellari, explained the decision as follows:

"The new contingent represents a further response to the requests for personnel from a sector of the justice system that has been left to its own devices for many years."

"The Ministry, in conjunction with the Department of Juvenile Justice, is working to progressively overcome all the various inherited critical issues, improve the quality of treatment provided to inmates, and ensure greater safety and dignity for those serving in our institutions."

Staff distribution:

Milan: 25 agents
Turin and Bologna: 11 agents per city
Rome, Florence and Pontremoli: 10 agents per city
Bari and Naples: 8 agents per city
Airola, Catanzaro and Treviso: 5 agents per city
Palermo: 4 agents
Catania: 3 agents
Acireale, Caltanissetta, Potenza and Quartucciu: 2 agents per city
Another 10 officers will be assigned to the External Penal Enforcement Offices.
