Naples. Adalgisa Gamba, the 42-year-old woman who killed her two-and-a-half-year-old son, Francesco, in Torre del Greco on January 2, 2022, will not be placed on probation.

Despite being acquitted on June 4th for total insanity, the woman will not be able to return home due to the lack of healthcare facilities or family members available to take her in and treat her.

The judges of the first section of the Assize Court of Naples, who acquitted her, ordered her transfer to a judicial psychiatric hospital under the REMS regime.

The measure was made necessary due to the impossibility of applying probation with the obligation to provide treatment and reside in a suitable facility, as established in the ruling.

She will be locked up in Rems for the next 15 years

The Torre Annunziata Prosecutor's Office, led by prosecutor Andreana Ambrosino, had already requested the woman's transfer to Rems, underlining the need for specific psychiatric care.

Adalgisa Leg, suffering from mental health issues, had self-diagnosed her son's autism by consulting the internet. The tragic event of January 2022 had profoundly shaken the Torre del Greco community.

The case once again highlights the lack of adequate facilities for the care of people with serious mental disorders and the importance of a social and health support network capable of accompanying and supporting those in need.
