A significant step forward for regional mobility has been achieved thanks to investments by the Campania Region. Anthony Acconcia, CEO of Air Campania, stated that this commitment has allowed citizens to enjoy more efficient and high-quality services. The announcement was made during the presentation of the 100 new buses delivered to the regional transport company.
The event, held in Avellino, was attended by prominent figures such as Campania Governor Vincenzo De Luca, Regional Transport Commission President Luca Cascone, and Acamir General Manager Maria Teresa Di Mattia. Eleven new vehicle models were presented, including the diesel-powered Ayats Horizon double-decker from Officine Di Maio, the 11-meter Iveco-based Indcar MOBI methane-powered bus, and the 7-meter diesel-powered Vivacity from IIA.
"The new buses combine efficiency, safety, comfort, accessibility, and sustainability."Acconcia stated, emphasizing that the vehicles are equipped with video surveillance systems, infomobility, passenger counting, and digital ticket validation systems. Over the past three years, Acamir has delivered 379 new vehicles to Air Campania, as part of a fleet rejuvenation program promoted by the Region. This has allowed 50% of the fleet to be renewed, which now numbers 774 vehicles, with an average age of 9,4 years, lower than the national average of 9,7 years (data from Asstra research center).
During his visit to the Avellino bus station, Governor De Luca inaugurated the new offices of the Automobile Club of Italy and the Automobile Club Avellino, in the presence of ACI Secretary General Gerardo Capozza and Automobile Club Avellino President Stefano Lombardi. A memorandum of understanding was also signed between the two organizations. Air Campania and ASL of Avellino, represented by the general manager Mario Ferrante, for the transfer of the territorial pharmacy service to the premises in via Fariello.
The Airone shopping mall, located inside the bus station and currently home to management offices, restaurants, a bar, a tobacconist, a pharmacy, and a Mondadori bookstore, will house a gym in the coming months. An agreement is also in place to relocate the offices of the Avellino Association of Accountants.
The terminal handles 400 trips daily from its 24 stalls, including extra-regional routes that will be expanded shortly. After the resumption of connections with Campobasso, the Avellino-Caianello-Rome route will be activated, with trips from Monday to Saturday at 5:30 and 16, and on Sunday at 14:30 and 19:30. Tickets will cost 17 euros from Avellino (32 euros return) and 10 euros from Caianello (18 euros return), with discounts for season tickets.
"The approval of the budget, with a profit of €840, and the awarding of lots 2 and 3 of the European tender for the provision of basic public transport services in Avellino, Benevento, and Caserta, strengthen our position as a regional player in road transport.", Acconcia declared. "Now we must look to the future and continue working to maintain high quality standards and meet the region's mobility needs."
The next step, Acconcia concluded, is the digital transition. Work has begun in Avellino and Caserta to install smart poles. "We're ready to lead this change too, which, thanks to Campania's Intelligent Transport System project, strongly supported by President De Luca, will revolutionize mobility, allowing users to get real-time information on travel times and any delays."
