Naples. Alessio Cuomo, a 35-year-old close to the Abbinante clan, was arrested by the Carabinieri last night in Giugliano in Campania after escaping capture last November 7.
Cuomo was one of 37 suspects in the pre-trial detention order issued by the Naples Anti-Mafia Directorate and executed by the Carabinieri of the Stella Company. He managed to escape arrest, but the Carabinieri of the Naples Provincial Command's Investigative Unit, with the support of the Stella Company's Operations Unit, continued their search for him.
Thanks to web patrolling, analysis of video surveillance images and tailing, the Carabinieri identified Cuomo in Giugliano in Campania.
The 35-year-old, who was active in the Scampia district and, in particular, in the "strongholds" of the Monterosa district, Ises and the so-called "33" area controlled by the Matching clan and was constantly on the move, but the incessant investigations allowed the circle to be narrowed down to some apartments in a closed street in the town.
He was at home with his parents, his wife and his children.
When the Carabinieri raided the apartment, where Cuomo's parents, wife and children were, the fugitive did not resist.
Cuomo will now be transferred to prison at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
